CHIANG MAI – Police in Chiang Mai City have reported that British National Damian Capper has reportedly fallen to his death from the eighth floor of a condominium in central Chiang Mai on Sunday.
Damian Capper, 43, was found dead in the parking lot behind a condominium on Nimmanhaemin Road in Muang district at about 1.30pm, Pol Lt Sompoj Noikong, duty officer at Phu Ping Ratchaniwet police station, said.
He said the man had been dead for at least 12 hours but his body was not found until the afternoon, after a man who works near the parking lot arrived and parked his car. The dead man was wearing only underwear.
An investigation found he fell from his room’s balcony on the eighth floor while the door was locked from the inside. Damian had lived there alone for several years.
Pol Lt Sompoj said his friends who live in the same building said Damian had been facing financial and health problems and had announced to his friends he was going to sell his belongings in the room and fly home.
Police have yet to officially conclude the cause of death, he said.
His body will been sent for a post-mortem examination and the British Embassy, in Bangkok, was notified. It is understood police are not treating Mr Cappers death as suspicious.
A Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokesman said if the Royal Thai Police are not satisfied after a initial examination of the facts surrounding a death, they can request an autopsy.
