CHIANG RAI – Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has stressed that the haze situation in Northern Thailand must be constantly monitored, otherwise it might possibly cause negative health effects to the public as well as deteriorate the country’s environment and spoil the tourism image.
The government has ordered agentcies to implement mitigation measures for potential haze in northern provinces through civil-state mechanism and integrated operations.
The government announced in a radio broadcast program the prevention and mitigation measures for the haze situation which usually happens during January – April in 9 provinces in the northern region, namely Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Prae, Payao, Mae Hong Son, Lampoon, Lampang, and Tak.
The authorities in these affected provinces have been instructed to execute the civil-state mechanism to solve the problem through the integrated operations of varied government agencies.
Farmers are advised to use appropriate solvents and replowing the soil instead of burning the surfaces of the farm to get rid of the remaining plants after harvesting while patrol missions will be carried out in area of national parks and national forest reserves to prevent fires.
