CHIANG MAI – More than 100 million baht worth assets belonging to a Hmong drug gang in Chiang Mai have been frozen by narcotics police.

The frozen assets include 21 single houses and shophouses in several housing estates, seven cars, four motorcycles and bank accounts.

The assets freezing followed earlier arrest of three Hmong tribesmen in Wiang Sa district of Nan and Mae Sod district of Tak and seizure of more than 600,000 methamphetamine tablets.  They were identified as Panya Songprasitphol, Koh Harnsathawong and Sawat Assavawitpinyo.

Narcotic police have also arrested two Hmongs and seized 350,000 methamphetamine tablets as they were driving in a car in Chiang Kham district of Phayao province while on their way to deliver the drug to a customer in Sukhothai. The arrest of the duo led to the seizure of more than five million baht worth of assets in a housing estate in Chiang Mai.

Pol Maj-Gen Panudet Boonruang, commander of Narcotic Police Region 3, said that the Hmong drug gang was made up of family members numbering between 30-40 people each being assigned to different jobs.
