
31-year-old Matti Kalvi Perlinen was found hanging from a window in the Top North Guest House on Moon Muang Road.
CHIANG MAI – Police have reported that Finnish National Matti Kalvi Perlinen has been found dead after committing suicide at an appartement complex in Chiang Mai.
According to the City News in Chiang Mai, Miss Suutarinen Anu Orvokki, who rented the apartment where Mr.Perlinen was found, told police she had gone out to enjoy the Chiang Mai Flower festival the day before where she met Mr.Perlinen near Thapae Gate.
She said he looked alone and depressed so she invited him back to stay at her apartment.
However, Perlinen attempted to cut his wrists, and after stopping him he became angry so she had no option but to ask him to leave.
Chiang Mai police said they called to the scene in the early morning after a housekeeper came across Mr. Matti Kalvi Perlinen, 31, hanging from a railing with a belt around his neck just outside from Miss Orvokki’s apartment.
Investigators did not expect foul play as it was evident that the death was self-inflicted.
The Finnish Embassy has been told by police to contact Perlinen’s family in Finland to take his body back to Finland.
