CHIANG RAI – The Meteorological Department said temperatures on the mountainous areas of the North will drop further by 1-2 degrees at weekend as the strengthened cold spell still blankets the upper region of the country.

Temperature on Chiang Mai’s Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain, dropped three degrees below zero Celsius and will drop further at weekend.

The dropping of temperatures below the freezing point caused massive areas covered by plants, flowers and tree leaves on the top of the mountain and alongside the hilly road to turn into flower frosts.

Park chief Pornthep Charoensuebsakul said today’s dropping temperature was its record low this year and expected it could fall further to minus 5-6 degrees on grass level.

He expected that at this weekend thousands of tourists are expected to the park to see the flows frosts.
He assured that the park is ready to facilitate tourists to see the phenomenon.
