Ban Wiang Ka Long Being Promoted as a New Tourist Attraction in Chiang Rai

The province today opened the village to members of the press, in a step to publicize various projects undertaken to promote ways of life and tradition of the village.

Deputy Governor of Chaing Rai Mr. Ratchakrit Satiranon said Ban Wiang Ka Long has high potentials as tourist attraction due to the Lanna-style way of life of villagers and a wide range of outstanding local products, especially handicrafts.

The village is located in Chiang Rai which shares the border with Myanmar and Laos and is also close to China, thus serving as a gateway to ASEAN.

And in order to prepare the village for tourism, training courses have been provided to villagers in the fields of handicraft making such as bamboo baskets and “Holy Baci” which is a tray made from natural materials such as flowers, banana leaves and bamboo poles for use in traditional rituals.

In addition, the village has improved its landscape, information service center and a tourist route which passes through numerous holy places and the Ancient Kiln.

Meanwhile, Cold weather conditions have continued to attract tourists to the field of flowers in Petchaboon and the sea of fog in Chiang Rai’s famous Mae Fah Luang District.
