CHIANG MAI – More than30 large-scale balloons from 10 countries have been dispatched in this year’s Thailand International Balloon Festival 2014, being held in the northern province of Chiang Mai, aimed at celebrating His Majesty the King’s 87th birthday and to promote tourism in the province.
The revered monarch celebrated his 87th birthday on Friday.
Sponsored by several private enterprises, the two-day festival began on Saturday at Chiang Mai’s Gymkhana Golf Club.
Spectators were excited to see some of the balloons with their heights over a five-story building over clear skies of the province.
Many also took pictures of the giant balloons which are participating in the festival being organized for the eighth time.
Besides giant balloons, people attending the festival are enjoying displays of small balloons and light and sound shows, with fireworks, musical concert by popular celebrities and singers at night
