In response to the media protests against the Thai PBS incident and the move by the Thai Journalists Association to ask the National Legislative Assembly to abrogate two NCPO orders restricting free expressions, Colonel Winthai Suvaree insisted that the NCPO’s duty was to maintain peace and order and it was necessary for the council to engage in discussions with the media which may cause public misunderstanding or discord.
He pleaded with the media to look at the NCPO in a positive light and to realize the good intention of the council towards the country and its obligation to maintain peace and order so the country can move forward.
Regarding the Thai PBS incident, Colonel Winthai said that the council did not impose any order on the TV station but simply sought consultation and cooperation.
He said that the NCPO has always held in respect members of the media and cooperate with the media “like members of the same family”. – Thai PBS
