CHIANG RAI – An Oil Tanker from Laos docked at Ha Chiang port on the Mekong River triggered a huge fire, resulting in two injuries, police said on Sunday.
Superintendent of Chiang Saen Marine Police,Pol Lt Col Thaninwat Hiranchawengsak said the Oil tanker from Laos was carrying 46,000 liters of diesel, caught fire and exploded on Saturday evening, the fire quickly spread to another vessel, which was also carrying 42,000 liters of diesel.
Pol Lt Col Thaninwat Hiranchawengsak said Firefighters took more than two hours to put out the blazing vessel.
The Laos Captain and and a crewman were injured in the fire. One of them is in a critical condition.
Chiang Saen Marine Police are investigating the cause of the explosion.
