BANGKOK – Thailand’s Immigration Bureau have arrested Spanish national Luis Batlle Vilaseca wanted for fraud in Spain.
Luis Batlle Vilaseca was a founder of a job agency alleged to have swindled more than 5,000 South American clients by falsely promising jobs in Europe.
According to the authority, Vilaseca made off with some €2.5 million before fleeing to Southeast Asia seven years ago. Vilaseca has been hiding in Thailand and Laos, running several restaurants under a false identity.
He was arrested on Wednesday night (Oct 29) at Bangkok Suvanabhumi airport attempting to enter Thailand from Cambodia with a fake Mexican passport.
“He will be charged for possessing fake passport, a charge verified by Mexican authorities,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Supachai Poladej, deputy immigration officer at Suvanabhumi Airport. “Then he will be extradited back to Spain to face further charges there.”
