PHETCHABURI — Alsiya Bakibva, a Russian National has been killed and her young daughter injured after being crushed by a falling boulder the size of a car at a Buddhist temple in Cha-am district Monday.
Alsiya Bakibva, 35, was crushed by the huge rock after it dislodged from a cliff above and tumbled down the hill, demolished two toilets, flattened a car and rolled through several trees and into two living quarters. She succumbed to her injuries at Cha-am Hospital.
Her six-year-old daughter, found lying on top of her mother, suffered a crushed leg and received initial treatment at the same hospital before being forwarded to Prachomklao Hospital.
The incident occurred at about 1pm at the Phra Non Na Kwang Monastery in Moo 2 of tambon Na Yarng.
Sophon Sanmee, 40, the temple’s construction contractor who witnessed the incident, said the boulder fell off the mountain top next to the monastery where Bakibva had taken her daughter to learn Buddha’s teachings.
Mr Sophon said it was raining and windy and people at the temple heard the roar from the mountaintop before the huge boulder fell.
